Picture This: Hike and Paint

Picture this: You show up to the trailhead with a water bottle and a sense of excitement, maybe just a touch of nervousness because you are doing something new. A friendly guide introduces themselves and helps to settle some nerves. Once the rest of the attendees arrive, a small group sets out on a beginner friendly hike. The pace is comfortable and there is plenty of opportunity to enjoy your surroundings.

After about a mile, the trees break to reveal a gazebo and open space with an incredible view beyond. Within this quaint area, there is a small easel, canvas, and paint palate set up for each individual in the group. An artist introduces herself and you are given a few moments to take in the view, instructed on specific things to look for.  Once you have found your perfect spot, you settle in for a 2 hour guided painting session.

Your artistic guide gives you detailed instructions on each step of the painting process. You follow along, slowly watching your masterpiece come to life. Surrounded by the beauty of nature, you feel your shoulders relax. The sounds of bird song in the trees quiets your mind and you can focus on the task in front of you. Breathing deeply fills your lungs with fresh air and you with a sense of calm. Being creative in nature gets you into a flow state and all of a sudden, it has been two hours of creativity, relaxation, and contentment. Taking in your artwork and your surroundings, you have a moment of gratitude to yourself for prioritizing your health in this way.

Packing up to head back to the trailhead is easy. All you have to do is pick up your painting and grab your water bottle. The hiking guide leads the group back down the trail and you get one more mile of nature-fueled bliss. When you return to your car, you are fulfilled and proud of what you have accomplished today.
